Nice that you (hopefully!) finally made it 
I had thought of a somewhat simpler solution for Windows write protection, namely right click on the folder, select "properties", remove the flag from "read-only", and apply the changes (it's normal that the flag reappears when opening that window again, doesn't necessarily mean anything
It is a Windows "feature"...

But I didn't know how far you know that.
If you use Avast you have hopefully deactivated Windows Defender completely.
